June
We made it! We got all unpacked and Aaron had a few days before he started work at IN N OUT. We decided to explore a little bit. A few miles from our house is Turtle Bay. The Sundial bridge and botanical gardens are free to wander, and then they have a museum and outdoor area you can pay to get in. We walked the Sundial bridge, which is the biggest working Sundial anywhere. (Though it's only accurate one day a year on the summer solstice.) The botanical gardens are beautiful! We saw a few deer there, and you could spend hours wandering around the plants. There was one that smelled just like burnt popcorn.
We came back the next day to see more of the botanical gardens, and it went from 95 degrees to 50 degrees! We had two days of rain.
Redding is the trail capital of California. It has more than 30 miles of paved trails that intersect with hiking trails and mountain biking trails. A lot of them follow the Sacramento River. We can hop on the Sacramento River trail about a half mile from our house.
Grace approved
Grace loves these Caterpillars! She always hunches down, put her hands out, and "Cumere" (Come here) as if they will immediately stop what they are doing and crawl all over her fingers.
These are the signs on all the bathrooms. California is politically correct.
We drove out to Anderson to see where we could have been. We almost got a house out there, but instead took a bishop's advice and got the place in Redding. It was an ugly little house, but it would have been nice to be in a more rural area.
