Eagle River

Eagle River Backpacking Trip

Erin's man friend was headed to Texas for a week and Erin was lonely so we decided to book a cabin out in the middle of Eagle River. Neither of us had been backpacking without a guy around so we were a little nervous. Like, who was going to build us a fire and split the wood? You know, do the man chores! But we were up for the task. We stayed in the Riverside Yurt which was only a mile and a half hike in. It was right on the Eagle River and had this enormous gorgeous lake only about .5 miles away. The day was stunning and we took Sadie and the shotgun as bear protection.

The trip out was stunning and we carried everything we needed ourselves. We got to the yurt, which is basically a cabin, but instead of having wood it has canvas on the outside. It had a wood burning stove, two bunks, and a table in there. Outside we had an outhouse and a bear locker to put our food in. Not only did they already have wood chopped for us, but someone left their camp chairs! So after we built a huge fire (yeah. we got skills) we sat by the river in our camp chairs and ate cookies.

As night fell, lol, ok here it doesn't really fall, but after the sun disappeared around the mountain we made steak and potatoes for dinner and went to check out the lake again. I had met a professional photographer out there earlier and after chatting with him for a bit he asked if I would model for him. He sent me a few photos and I loved them! Erin was so bummed she hadn't gone.

Golden hour. We went back to the cabin and had some smores before accidentally locking ourselves out of the yurt. Dang it. Fortunately Erin is a bit of a rebel and could B&E with her credit card so we weren't locked out for long. So much for being safe. We slept great and figured out that backpacking is fun even without the boys!
